I was lucky enough to go to David Duchovny’s Listening Party for his second album, Every Third Thought in The Village this afternoon. It was awesome to listen to his new album, hear about the creative process and get to ask questions. When I asked him how I knew that when he began his career that he didn’t have any musical ambitions and here he is on his second music album, had it stopped feeling surreal he laughed and said, no it was still weird, but that he wouldn’t use “surreal” and after several moments of pondering he came up with “it feels good” which got a laugh from everyone. It was such a thrill to see him once again in person and to see once again what a truly humble person he is and just how much work he puts into his music. The cream on the top was to meet him personally and get an individual photo taken with him. I told him that I love his politics which he clearly liked and told me “we’ll get ‘em” as I was walking away. All in all money well spent.

David Duchovny: Expanding his repertoire from UFOs to rock and roll

“The second album is less heavy thematically and less heavy in lots of other ways,” says Duchovny of broadening his sound palette.  "The first album was like, ‘I can’t believe I have actually written an album’ and the second one is realising this is part of what I do now. It was more of a natural thing,“ he says.

Duchovny recently gave his 88-year-old mother an audio book of his forthcoming release.

“I am pretty sure my mother has read my books,” he says. “Her eyes aren’t that great but she tells me she’s read them. I find when it comes to relatives, it’s hard for them to consume the works you write. I personally know my mother is afraid she’ll end up in one of the books. You read with that fear, of ‘please don’t say anything about me’.”

I figure my downtime is going to come,“  “I still love my acting, I’ve just found other passions as well.

"When you’re an actor-for-hire, you’re always afraid you’ll be put out to pasture or they’re going to stop wanting to see you. I like to keep working while the work is there. That has always been my approach, but having found music and writing prose for the last six years I have other ways to express myself.”

“But a first album is a first regardless of what age you release it. Every Third Thought is about as honest as I get to what I want to say. I hope my fans enjoy it.”

The X-Files star David Duchovny says his singing is out there

sunshinetoday:

By the time he toured Europe last year, fans had sampled Hell or Highwater and the most dedicated among them were ready to show their support with some impressive crowd karaoke.

It was a rock star moment he will never forget, even if he isn’t destined to achieve the level of musical success of his own heroes.

“In Europe, it was crazy. It was a surreal moment when they all started singing. I did that thing where you hold out the mic out for them and their singing was louder than mine. I could take that verse off,” he said, laughing.
