It’ll be hard to say and subject to interpretation as usual, but I think David’s got helped on the technical side of writing lyrics, not the content nor the subject. He knows he isn’t properly a singer so I think lyrics matter to him and I believe what interests him in the process of being a musician is telling stories that matter to him. So I’m sure there will be a lot of him, his thoughts and his soul in those new songs.
Étiquette : every third thought
David Duchovny talking about Hell or Highwater, Garry Shandling, Brad, Every Third Thought, Bucky Fucking Dent, how Gillian Anderson “might have” showed up on stage with him but couldn’t and how she didn’t know what Take a Knee was and so on…
David Duchovny stopped by The Nat & Drew Show to talk about his new music, The X Files and he even cleared up a misunderstanding that he had with Vancouver!

David Duchovny: Songs in the Key of X
Some highlights/new information:
• On the Vancouver concert: “For the coming performance, he is bringing up half his band from Los Angeles.
‘It’s keyboards, guitar and me, and the guys will sing some too,’ he said. ‘It will be vulnerable, for sure, because I wouldn’t win American Idol. I’m fine with that.’“
• On Bucky F*cking Dent becoming a film: ‘It actually started as a screenplay and now it’s reverting back to its original form. I seem to have the money to make it, so it looks like it’s happening this summer.”
• On future projects: “He is also developing a couple of shows that he may or may not be starring in.
‘I can’t really say too much about those … because they aren’t committed to shooting at the moment, so we’ll see,” he said. “When the work is good, whether it is writing, acting of singing, it doesn’t matter to me what the venue or the form is if it feels good and true and entertaining. I’ll dance if you want me to, but you don’t want me to.’“
Wait, what are those songs on David’s new album… Maybe I Can’t, Someone Else’s Girl, Last First Time, Teach Yourself?? 👀 I’m very biased and can turn anything into Gillovny. It’s stupid. That being said I expect everybody to drop all the lyrics of the album once it’s out. A full on analysis is in order. 💿📝
Oh don’t worry about that! As soon as the album is released, all the study and analysis and theories will follow for sure! I know there were a lot of theories around Someone Else’s Girl being Gillovny. Personally, I don’t think it is and I think that if he ever write something about Gillian, we will feel it. So I’ll be very attentive when I listen to these new songs…

Update from Pledge Music
David is in Vancouver filming X-Files, the band is in NY rehearsing for the Australian Tour, so it’s just my friends and I in the office today listening to new mixes from “Every Third Thought.” Let us know what you think of “Stranger in the sacred heart!”
– @Bloodbubble Asked: How is the second album going to be different from the first?
I think it had a broader range of musical styles. A little more rock, a little more experimental, maybe a little less dark, but still dark.
– @keighery_neil Asked: Hey David. Saw you in Glasgow o2 last year. Fab gig. When you coming back? Is Tom Petty a favorite?
I do love tom petty. My mother is Scottish, I’m half Scottish so there’s always a chance I’ll come back to Glasgow. Good chance .
– @blurryriot Asked: What was your favorite episode of XFiles to shoot?
There’s a few. Dreamland was fun. But probably the unnatural cauSe it was the first time I wrote and directed —and that was so challenging and new and interesting to me
– @JustinDuchovny Asked: What was your favorite show when you were a kid?
Maybe Star Trek. Gilligan’s island. Carol Burnett. James at 16.
– @tinanimitz1 Asked: Hi I was wondering when #EveryThirdThought is going to be released, and wanted to know who influenced your music?
Later this year. I don’t know who the influences are till after I hear it all produced
And then I think still Petty, maybe some Bowie, I hope Wilco
– @JustinDuchovny Asked: What was your second favorite subject in school?
English then history
– @bkingngood Asked: At Chicago Bucky F*cking Dent Q&A, you said Ted & Mariana were complementary soulmates. How do they complete each other?
He gets peanut butter on her chocolate and vice verse
I dunno
Hopefully once you read you agree
I can really say literally
– @whoisbillymiles Asked: I’m 32 and still on the very painful & frustrating stage of learning how to play the guitar. Any non-obvious tips to get through this?
Commit to at least 5 minutes a day
– @DrDuchovny Asked: Can you tell us anything more about Miss Subways?
The inspiration was from many sources— it’s a love story so it’s really about the sacrifice, the ultimate sacrifice that one can make for love
It’s based somewhat on some old Irish mythology as well
– @K94lif Asked: Will brick appear in the Xfiles?
He may by mistake 😉
Thanks for all your questions.
