David Duchovny’s Muse Returns On Second LP ‘Every Third Thought’ (INTERVIEW) – Glide Magazine
And what are your plans for this year?
We have The X-Files out right now, ten episodes playing. Then I’m going to go tour Australia with the band next week and come back and I think I’ll be directing a film this summer in New York.

Interview: David Duchovny discusses his new album, ‘Every Third Thought,’ songwriting
AXS: What excites you the most about the new album, Every Third Thought, and this next phase of your career?
DD: In terms of the music, on the one hand, I’m afraid that I’ll never write another song because I didn’t write one for the first fifty-three years that I’ve been here [laughs]. On the other hand, I’m excited to become a better musician and see what kind of doors that opens up for me as a songwriter.
Interview: David Duchovny discusses his new album, ‘Every Third Thought,’ songwriting
After reading the « track by track » interview with David and people wanting a song to be about G, I think writing songs are still a form for him to heal about his family, even though it’s been a while. I remember reading an interview about him having a family and what meant for him and another one where he said that learning guitar saved him from going down on a dark place. I think his songs are about events from the past that still present. G is a present event, in a way. He’s very sensitive. ❤
Totally agree, and I think most of the songs of this album were written at the time of his divorce, just like on his previous album. The one about his dad and the one he didn’t write must have been written more recently though.
I saw a terrible review of his album stating it would make Tim Daly uncomfortable and I’ve read people being annoyed that this is again about Tea, but I believe one can’t live for so long with someone, have two kids, go through difficult times and finally to a divorce without being hurt forever. It doesn’t mean he hasn’t moved on, it just means that it marked him for life, just like it may have marked Tea and their kids. That’s not something you can put behind you and forget, so if writing songs about it makes him feel better, who are we to judge him for that? I guess he has written a lot of them at this period, and we may not have heard all of them yet, so maybe we’ll have to wait his fourth or fifth album to get songs about Gillian 🙂

David Duchovny, No Stranger To Character Studies, Puts Them To Music
AllMusic: Like the character in “Last First Time,” is he saying what he’s saying because he’s burned out on the rigmarole of relationships or because he’s just that optimistic about the one he’s about to start?
Duchovny: I think it’s both. That song, to me, was as romantic as a 50-year-old guy could get. I was at a wedding recently, the people were my age, and it was like Disney, they were talking like it was Disney stuff, and that was weird to me. You’ve got to have a different version of romance when you get to a certain age.
