I don’t like engaging in this discussion only because I just want to enjoy…you know in a way I’m not sure if that’s kind of like…changing the way people are watching these last ones. Putting a certain kind of pressure on them to be an end or to be. I’d rather that people just kind of experience them as the season that we did whether that turns out to be the last season, I don’t know. I mean it seems to be that way today, but…
Bless this beautiful man and his beautiful heart!

David Duchovny on Bill Carter – Sirius XM podcast
On his relationship with Gillian Anderson:
“We’ve spent so much time together. We’ve acted so much together. It’s not a possibility that I’ll ever act with anybody as much… there’s not enough time left in my life to do that. So, there’s a personal history that’s strong, there’s a personal history kind of encompasses this life changing and career making enterprise that we did together. We have that bond of like having started when we were just kind of individual people and then becoming this huge thing and only the other one knows what that’s like. And then we have all this acting that we’ve done together so I don’t think we even try to play any kind of anything. “

“Occasionally, I’ve ran around too much and I haven’t enough breath to sing. It’s like ‘Oh shit! I gotta sing now! And I’m sweating and I’m panting over here!’ ‘cause like I said, singing is not a natural gift for me so I kinda have to concentrate when I’m doing it. So if I’m having too good time, the songs may not be as good.”
“One thing that Darin and I have talked about, is that Darin hates to work. You know, he hates having a job. So every show he’s ever been employed by, he tried to destroy from within. So if you think of every Darin script as trying to destroy The X-Files. You know, trying to cut it off at the knees. To expose it as ridiculous.”

“So this is the last season of The X-Files?”
“We think! We don’t know! Nobody knows! I don’t think that way. I figured there’s always time to mourn. I try to appreciate it as it’s happening and not put a label on what’s happening or when. Nobody knows. Nobody wants to say.”

Exclusive: The X-Files’ writer/director James Wong gets into the Ghouli of it all
Diving back into the character beats of this episode, let’s talk about Scully’s incredibly emotional morgue confessional to William. Did Gillian have a lot of thoughts about how to play that?
Gillian was really into that whole idea that it was like an apology but speaking to someone who may, or may not be her son. She liked the idea of baring her soul to this person who she felt like she failed. We talked a lot about that, and we worked on the monologue together. The thing that she kept coming back to was that she was interested in the duality of not really knowing if this was her son, and being overtaken by the emotions of what it would have been like for her. I liked really exploring that and also for her character to explore the idea that when the body is missing, that became a moment of optimism for her. Of course, there’s Mulder who’s saying, “Well, there could be many reasons…” because there’s this conspiracy theory about why the body is missing. But I liked that idea that Gillian was really into Scully’s hope of what happened.
Exclusive: The X-Files’ writer/director James Wong gets into the Ghouli of it all

Ghouli summary by Gillian Anderson
The way Chris had written was: she walks to the dividing door between the hotel rooms, and looks in and sees Mulder kind of taking his pants off, taking his shirt off and getting into bed to go to sleep. I said ‘First of all. I just said goodbye 7 seconds ago. What kind of man gets out of his clothes that quickly? Secondly, if I don’t see her looking at me, you’re basically going to be watching me take off my pants from behind…’ I said ‘what if she comes and opens the door and I’m just standing there? Like, yup. I knew you were going to open that.’ So I feel like that really kind of helped, you know, save the end of that episode.
