One of them — probably him — discovered fic around the same time that they discovered msrafterdark and fanvids. In the long months between when they got to be together IRL, they started randomly sending each other links to the fics they liked. She tended to like the hottest, dirtiest ones, especially the ones where Mulder is in control; he’d send her the sweeter, sappier ones (often with a comment about how “fluff” could mean more than one thing). They both loved “Contact High” and “The Parting Glass” (both of which he threatened to send to the creator of their show with some sort of pointed note, which she nixed on grounds of not wanting to make him feel bad — and they laughed and laughed). They read “Iolokus” and “Blinded By White Light” chapter by chapter together like an intercontinental book club with only two members. Later, when they got to spend more time together, “Visitor/Resident” choked them up, not just because of the stories themselves but for how it showed them what could have been (they didn’t discuss that part, just kind of suffered the feeling separately). He read “When the Ink Dries” to her over the phone one night that spring, and neither of them made it through the call with all their clothes on.
Ok. I’ve said this before… But before people freak out over secondhand information… They really should seek out FIRSTHAND information. This is how rumors and bad stuff gets started and circulated.
I was at the Alien Con panel. And DD did NOT say he was ‘done with MSR’ the way people here are taking it. You have to take this all in context. He was asked, over the course of about thirty minutes, about the lack of a S11 kiss perhaps four or five different ways. How many times can he answer the same thing? Asking the same question a different way isn’t going to change the answer…. At one point, he just was exasperated and told the host “ wow, you are really into this topic” (or words to that effect) and asked to move on…TO OTHER QUESTIONS AND TOPICS. He gladly discussed his fave episodes, talked about hurting his back on set, talked about working with different guest stars. He and Mitch also took audience question.
So can we put all this “David hates the fandom” gloominess to bed now?
I don’t know how the good times were in the 90′s when the whole fandom was created and all those cool historical moments happened…creating the word ‘shipper’/writing the first ‘fanfictions’/talking to each other in chat rooms…I missed it because I was a very young X-phile from Eastern Europe whose English vocabulary was limited to words like house, cat and ‘Good morning’ 😂😂But I feel like this season might be as good as it was in the 90′s. I mean, your favourite show is on the air, producing amazing episodes and we have a platform where we can talk about it and share all theories, and fan-made creations. Only, it’s a bit better because It’s all the things we asked for!!! It’s all the things we were loudly and excessively discussed on different social media platforms!
‘This’ is an episode with Mulder and Scully on the run, solving clues, being all badass, seasoned with cute domestic scenes and a Lone Gunman. ‘Plus one’ is literally an MSR fluff fanfic with the “Oh, we only have one room left but has a pull-out sofa” “This case freaks me out, can you hold me, Mulder?” “Let’s have some intimate talk ATTHS” With the warnings of “Come back to bed, Mulder I’m naked in here” “Afterglow” Case closed, but wait: ATTHS! ‘The lost art of the forehead sweat’ is Darin Morgan full of easter eggs, humour and Mulder, Scully in their not usual behaviour. It’s always an audience pleaser but this time with literally the audience in it. Cause let’s be honest, we are all Reggie, inserting ourselves into the X-files and their stories😂😂 ‘Ghouli’ is coming for us. It’s the angst episode with a scary, creepy case file that turns into MSR. We will see William, it will move the mythology forward like nothing in the last 2 decades and Gillian and David’s performances are gonna bring us down to our knees. Just so when our heart is aching with all the pain this episode brings, it’s gonna be easy to take us down. Kitten is a Skinner-centered episode, with some right amount of Mulder, Scully involvement. Episode 7 is only Mulder and Scully. Literally no one else, just the two of them interacting!…
So yeah, we’ve been monitored and now they know everything! Including all our sins and they keep throwing them in our faces! We already went to Chilli’s, Scully is talking about fanfiction, they know about BOB! and I’m sure they are not done, yet. They created a website for the fans! We can create our own conspiracy board and investigate with Mulder and Scully! If this is not the coolest thing a TV show has ever done, I don’t know what is.
So, as oppose of complaining – which we often do, cause we never get any good stuff we ask for – this is me praising this stupid show, its writers, its actors, the crew and everyone who was involved. This season so far is as unique as it gets soif this is our goodbye season, me, as a fan, I am eternally grateful for it all! Thank you!❤️️👽❤️️
I really enjoyed this opener. Probably more than I have enjoyed any mythology episode since Amor Fati, and easily one of the most exciting dramatic rides since Redux II.
No, it wasn’t a perfect episode. Mulderlogues used in a way we have never seen before and felt extraneous. The Mulder-Skinner tussle was dumb and even Mitch thought so. Also ¿¿dafuq Monica??
None of that overshadowed my ability to enjoy the episode as a whole. You know what did? You people. You were rude to Chris in the AMA yesterday, and spent all day trashing him here and on Twitter. You were chomping at the bit by the time the episode aired. I was ashamed of this fandom last night, and it ruined my enjoyment of this show. Both the run-up and the thing itself.
I blame myself, mostly. I should have just ignored it all and let myself ride out the afterglow of an episode I really enjoyed. And despite the fact that I think everyone is being dramatic and hypocritical about the big reveal at the end, telling people how they should feel about rape and misogyny is something I cannot and will not do. The only kind of instance I feel it’s okay to tell people what they should think about rape and abuse is when they glorify it, such as by shipping Rey and Kylo Ren which is 100% fucked up. I won’t stand in the way of people who are basically just saying “rape is bad.”
So I am ending my negative experience of this episode, right here, right now. This will be my last whiney post about it, and I’ll just ignore the negativity from here on out and try to refocus on why I loved this ep. Later maybe I will write a review, which will be mostly positive. Which those of you who hated it are free to ignore.
