David Duchovny Reveals How Trump Could Influence The X-Files’ Next Season

David Duchovny recently discussed the future of The X-Files with Unorthodox. Alternative Nation transcribed his comments. Duchovny was asked if he felt like we were living in an episode of The X-Files with the state of the world with the new U.S. administration, and his answer hinted at what might influence the next season of The X-Files.

“Well in a sense, I feel like, and we are talking about maybe doing some more [X-Files], and I’m kind of excited. As much as I’m horrified by the state of affairs in this country, I am excited as an artist to tackle these kinds of issues through the frame of The X-Files in this day and age. I mean the idea that I’m going to shoot a scene in Skinner’s office with a picture of Donald Trump in the background, I can’t tell you how nauseous that makes me feel. But I also think we have some good work to do around this age.”

The X-Files aired a six-episode miniseries in 2016 after 14 years off the air. The X-Files was one of the 90’s most iconic television series, originally airing on FOX from 1993 to 2002. Duchovny also discussed X-Files memes, and how iconic the Fox Mulder character has become.

“It’s like it has nothing to do with me, it’s a character I played, or continue to play. It’s a job that I did a long time ago, or will do again in the future. What happens, like any work of art that one does, be it a novel or a movie or a TV show or a character, once you put it out there, it is no longer under your control, especially in the internet world we live in where everyone gets transformed into memes and GIF’s.”

He also compared playing Mulder to Hank Moody on Californication, “I embraced the [Hank Moody] character because he was really one of those truth telling characters, I guess like Mulder in a way. If Mulder speaks truth to power, Hank just speaks truth all the time. I enjoyed the comedy, turning the soul of that character full circle.”

David Duchovny Reveals How Trump Could Influence The X-Files’ Next Season

92.7 WOBM’s Justin Louis talks to David Duchovny about his friendship with Garry Shandling, the upcoming Twin Peaks revival, and teases the future of the X-Files. Plus details on his upcoming show at Asbury Park’s Stone Pony with his debut album “Hell or Highwater”.

Do you think that it will be posible that we will get a Gillovny confirmation when they will promote txf 11? The whole thing, the whole fuckery is very *enjoyable* but I really need a happy end before I die!

I think we will get a confirmation, one day, but to be honest, I don’t believe it can happen when they’re so much on the spot. Coming out during the promotion of xf is the last thing to do, for them and their image. People will be confused, they’ll be accused to do a showmance, and they’ll have all the press on their heels. If they come out one day, I believe it’ll be more lowkey than that, when no one is really paying attention to them. But as season 11 will probably be the last one, we can have hope for the next few years. At least, there’s that.

I’m sad because when David say something about more X-Files episodes, so many of the fandom call him a liar, say he’s leading them on, he just wants attention for it since it’ll be only him and not Gillian. Like I didn’t hear >any< of that. David was really happy and excited for more episodes and he wouldn't have the reason to lie. I also don't believe he would does more without Gillian. Ever. I wish people would be nicer to him.

I don’t know who said that, but they’re fooling themselves. There’s no Xfiles without Scully. She means everything to Chris Carter, he won’t agree to it without her, and David either. I believe part of his excitement about doing more is that they’ll work together again. If you remove her from him, he probably won’t do it at all.
I’m not even talking about that fact that Mulder is still dying on a bridge, where obviously Scully and their son are his only chance to survive, so they can’t make her disappear.
Fox want 10 episodes, Gillian will probably agree to do 8 and David will do 2 on his own. It’s fair, she’d done two seasons and a half without him, he can do two episodes, but he won’t do more without her.

Seriously, if S11 doesn’t happen because a few people are complete morons and can’t behave like human beings, I’m gonna be so pissed off!! You couldn’t blame Gillian for not wanting to do it after all this tbh, but it would be such a shame

Don’t worry about that, anon. People in this fandom can be as nasty as they want, we still have no power on Gillian’s life, on the choices she makes and the projects she agrees to do. Unlike what some people seem to think, Gillian doesn’t live her life in order to “punish” her own fandom for its inappropriate behavior.

I am now confused about the xf revival. Do you think we’ll soon get a season 11 announcement like D. Madden said or do you think the other Fox guy is right and we won’t get a new season before 2019?

I think we will have to wait until the TCA next May to have a real answer as to how much episodes have been greelighted and when they’ll start filming. It’s possible they’ll be filming this year, maybe at the end of the summer, and if it’s not the case, we’ll have to wait until spring 2018, because I don’t believe anyone will convinced David and Gillian to film during six month in Vancouver during winter.

‘X-Files’: Fox Very Close to Ordering More Episodes

Fox’s most popular “new” show last year was the revival of The X-Files, and now the network is finally very close to ordering more episodes.

At the Television Critics Association’s press tour in Pasadena, California on Wednesday, Fox president David Madden told reporters that while the deal-making is “complex” on the show due to the schedules of stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, the network expects “to have an announcement shortly.”

After Fox’s executive session, Madden told us he wanted to have a reveal ready for Wednesday’s event, but any deals weren’t quite done.

Fox is looking to have more than the shortened, six-episode season that was ordered for last year’s revival … but also cautioned that its order won’t be as large as a traditional 22-episode broadcast series.

Most likely, The X-Files will return in 2018, the executive noted.
