Spot-on. I was definitely expecting at least a woman to be her speaker too. Chris Carter is understandable, even if they are not that close. But, how much time have Gillian shared with Bryan Fuller or Joel McHale? David aside, doesn’t she have more meaningful people around in the US? Longtime friends? People who are/have been actually part of her personal life?

That’s the trick. I’m a bit surprised that no one is talking about the lack of women speakers at her ceremony, especially the feminists-activists of this fandom. There’s a few I could think about, who will definitely be in LA this weekend, but I have no idea why they haven’t been chosen. To be honest, if we’re talking about Gillian’s meaningful long time friends being part of her personal life and professional life, besides Chris and David, I can’t think of anyone right now…

Hey JHH remember when Joel McHale was scheduled to present Gillian Anderson a webby award and at the very last minute we discovered that in fact it was going to be David Duchovny and how surprised and shocked we all were? I remember that.

I remember that too, but I don’t think it’s going to happen again. The Webbies didn’t say anything about David before they announced him. If David is indeed going to show up tomorrow, I think this woman from the Walk of Fame wouldn’t have said anything. She sounded very genuine and amazed by the fans reactions. If there was a surprise scheduled, it would have been handled differently in order to not piss everyone off beforehand.

« Upset » is not the word. It’s sadness. I’m not Gillovny, Gorgan or Gillorgan. There’s no need to be any of that to feel sad. Gillian Anderson is an American actor, a very talented American actor, and it’s very painful to see that the speakers of that ceremony are two people she met a couple of years ago and barely know her on a personal level, and someone who met her decades ago, but it’s not exactly a friend. It makes me wonder about her personal links to the US. 1/2

David Duchovny’s absence is pretty painful regardless of what people think of him or their relationship. He’s been a very important part of her life and someone really close to her in a meaningful way. It doesn’t help either to see her so skinny with a new look that hardly suits her. I wish Gillian Anderson the best, but I’m not sure where she’s at and where she’s going. And, yes, I feel sad and don’t have a comforting feeling. 2/2

It’s not like she couldn’t find anyone else, or that she wanted some brits to be speakers but couldn’t because they’re in London. It’s the Golden Globes, everyone is in LA!

These three speakers will keep me guessing forever. I think it’s normal that Chris has been chosen, he also spoke at David’s ceremony, he’s Piper’s godfather and he’s the one who gave her the chance to have a career. It all started with him so I was expecting him to be there. I was expecting Bryan Fuller to attend too, but maybe not to be speaker. He clearly worships her, and she loves working with him. I think he has become a very important person in her life. I’m not sure how close they are, but he was invited to the premiere of XF season 10 and they even left together. They might not know each other for a long time, but they definitely have a special bond. That said, to be honest, I ws expecting him to be in the audience, like Pamela Adlon or Evan Handler were at David’s ceremony.
I will never understand why Joel McHale is a speaker. I really like him, and I’m sure he’ll be honored to do it and he’ll be funny and sweet, but he’s the last person I expected to be there. I don’t know how much importance Gillian gives to this ceremony, but she choose to have this star, so somehow, it might be meaningful to her. I am not sure she will remember Joel McHale in ten years, I don’t know if they’ll ever work together again if we can even call that the two or three scenes they have in common.
I was also expecting at least one woman to be a speaker. Gillian has been very vocal about feminism lately, to say the least, so I thought it would have been important for her to have women around her. Apparently, I was wrong.

David’s ceremony was really good because it was basically family and friends. There was no real surprise, everybody was were they had to be. Gillian’s hasn’t started yet and it’s already odd. I really look forward to watch it tomorrow because I think it’ll be surprising. Good or bad, that I don’t know.

The more I think about it, the less I think David would make up a fake commitment to not show up at Gillian’s WOF. He could be hurt, jealous or could find it awkward but he would still be there. He continues to be her friend and continues to support her. He’s better than that. And if it’s simply an agreement on both parts, it would be weird still. I so wish we could know but we might be overthinking it. Let’s hope we get rewarded with his note. He’ll make her laugh without even being there! 🤗

I’m sure we’re overthinking, as usual 🙂 I’m still very upset and sad that David couldn’t go and I wish he could have make it work. I’m really hoping we won’t have any sighting of him doing nothing in LA but I’m not even sure he still is in LA right now. He could be in NY and his commitment could be there. I just hope we eventually know what it is so we can all be in peace with that and I hope the message he’ll leave her will meet our expectations!

David being there along with Gillian’s bf would have been a good way for them to show that Gillovny isn’t real and it’s all fine and the air is clear everywhere. Like you said, David not going is very sad news but maybe it actually tells us being “just friends” is not easy for him. Maybe it’s an actual sign that Gillovny really isn’t dead and we didn’t imagine everything that happened in 2016 or before that. This is what I want to hope. 💞

I’m very confused to be honest. They look really fine with each other when they are together. In the little E! Interviews and in the BTS Fox released, they look good. Then there’s Gillian tweeting pictures of him and they are good! And there’s the “see you in January”.
So I don’t know, maybe we’re reading too much into it and he really has a commitment, but it sucks. I don’t know what it is that he couldn’t move to attend her ceremony but I wish he had a made a little effort. He keeps postponing his album so I guess his schedule is flexible!
Anyway… I hope to see them together for the promo of XF eventually…
