She didn’t really want to be there. She was standing in the crowd looking like a child who lost their parents in the supermarket. She smiles shyly but deep down she wants to burst into tears. The fact that Peter is standing next to her somehow doesn’t make it better. She knows he’s somewhere here too. She wonders if he’s changed much. Is he a little more gray? A little more handsome? And what would be his reaction? Will he smile? Will he walk away? « Gillian », Peter says grabbing her hand. 1/?

“That’s our table” he leads her to his friends who were already seated. She sits next to Claire and smiles politely. She’s getting more nervous with every minute. Peter says something to her but she just smiles and looks away. She’s full of regrets now, recalling Piper’s words. “Mom, be careful. You’re gonna hurt yourself and that guy only because you can’t have him.” She’s right. Her daughter is so clever. “Do you want anything to drink?” Peter asks coldly. She shakes her head. 2/?

“Maybe we’ll dance?” She looks at him like she doesn’t believe the words he said. “I mean maybe. People do. Dance.” He’s nervous, too. She wonders whether he knows that she’s full of doubts. Does he feel it coming? And if so, should she just do it now? “Come on, let’s dance.” Peter stands and takes her hand. She reluctantly stands up, too and goes with him to the dance floor. They start moving together but it feels so awkward. She feels everyone’s staring and she feels even more uncomfortable.

“Peter I have to tell you something…” she starts and he looks at her like a hurt dog. “I…” And that’s when she sees him. He’s standing there, hands in the pockets of his suit pants. Looking directly at her. Half smiling. Her heart starts beating so fast, she can’t control herself. She starts sweating and breathing louder. Is she having a heart attack? “I can’t do this.” She whispers, hoping Peter will hear her. He does. But he doesn’t understand. “Can’t do what?” He seems angry.

“This.” She says as she breaks free from his embrace. “I’m sorry Peter. I’m so sorry.” She leaves the dance floor, hoping he doesn’t follow her. As she’s standing at the stairs, trying to calm down, she hears “Always on my mind” playing. Michael Bublé version. She smiles through tears. She hears someone approaching. Then she feels a familiar touch of a warm hand on her bare shoulder. “May I have this dance?” He whispers into her ear and makes her heart go crazy again. She turns around and…

“David…” she sighs. He’s smiling at her. His lips and eyes are smiling at her again. He loves her. “David…” she doesn’t know what to say really. “I’m here.” He says calmly as he takes her into his arms and they start swaying. He breathes in her smell and falls even more in love. “I’m here.” “For how long?” She asks although she’s scared of hearing the answer. He looks into her eyes and kisses her deeply. “For as long as you want me.”

“Forever it is, then.” They smile at each other and they keep dancing even long after the music’s quiet. Because there’s just Gillian and David. And no one and nothing else in the world matters. There’s just them and the whole eternity. A little longer than I thought. Love!

I don’t know how I feel about PM’s fic, but yeah… I liked it. Thank you, anon! ❤
