Actually, I just read the whole ‘if I was single’ quote and it does seem like it can be taken eitger way. Like, if I was a single with no kids (trying to make it relatable to single childless women) or if I was a single with no kids (I currently am seeing someone and already have kids). They both make sense. I’ve changed my mind. I don’t think we’ll see any confirmation anytime soon. And when it doesn’t, people in the fandom will argue over those two inferences. (1)

Basically, in the first inference, GA is putting herself in the shoes of a childless single woman. If I was xyz(you) I would do this. The second inference is a hypothetical contrary to the current scenario. If I was single right now and was childless, I would do this. The second one gurantees that she’s dating someone. The first not necessarily. So, it can be taken either way. Though I am tilting slightly towards her slipping it in that she’s not single anymore.

That’s a lot of mind-twisting 🙂 I think she’s not single, that’s what she meant.
The thing is, it’s a written interview, so we will never know. Things get added to written interviews, Elle isn’t a very cautious and serious paper, so there’s also a possibility she’d never pronounced those words. It’s possible she only mentioned her kids, and the journalists made a little addition based on what they thought they knew, on what they read or whatever. Who knows!
