“Lemon Scented You” features Gillian Anderson like you’ve never seen her before. That debut as Lucy Ricardo was nothing compared to this.

“Media’s Lucy Ricardo won’t prepare you for Gillian Anderson’s complete disappearance into the roles of a distorted David Bowie and otherworldly Marilyn Monroe. Dana Scully, Stella Gibson, even Blanche DuBois…Nothing about those characters will prepare you for what happens here. Not one thing. Media’s turns as Bowie and Monroe are completely shocking in a way that defies explanation.

Each character has entirely different mannerisms, voices, and accents. Without prior knowledge, viewers would likely be unable to tell that a single actress is behind both of Media’s manifestations. But yes, that is Gillian Anderson as David Bowie in one of Neil Gaiman’s favorite scenes. It’s also Gillian up there, rocking the Marilyn Monroe and shamelessly flirting with all of us.

When Media becomes David Bowie, it’s like she exists in this faraway place amongst the cosmos and has decided to grace us mere mortals with her presence here on Earth. Her later appearance as Marilyn Monroe is something else entirely.

Is this making any sense? Probably not. If staring directly into the sun is supposed to burn your retinas, then maybe staring directly at Gillian Anderson’s Media can burn the brain’s ability to form coherent thoughts on the matter. You’ll see.”
