Hello! I have a question for you but it’s kind of personal so if you don’t want to answer that’s okay. Do you track your anons? I saw many Gorgonites answering anons and telling them they know their IP. Is it really a thing and do you do it too? Is it even legal? I sent them a few asks but now I’m scared they get my identity. I trust you so I don’t mind if you have it but I don’t trust them!

Hello anon! I have no problem answering that 🙂 It is a thing and I don’t use it. It’s called Statcounter.

One or two years ago, a friend of mine told me about this tool and I tried it so I could locate some trolls, but I stopped after two days. I figured the free version only works if you have close to zero traffic on your blog because it only records a very few datas and when it has reached it maximum, either you have to pay for more datas or it erases everything and starts over. So it was pretty pointless unless I checked the report every hour and honestly, I didn’t care that much. So either these Gorgan blogs who are using it don’t have traffic on their blog, which is a great news, or they pay for it, which is sad.

I think it is legal, or at least it’s not illegal… What would be illegal would be to publish people’s IP and location, I guess. Don’t worry too much, though. They might have your IP address, but as far as I know, none of them are enough of a genius hacker to find your identity from your IP and that would be illegal anyway.

Just a little tip, if you want to know if someone uses it, just go to their page, make a right click anywhere and select “show page source code”. Then type “ctrl+F” and type “statcounter”. If you get a result, it means they use it. If not, they don’t. If you still want to visit these blogs (you don’t!) without being tracked, you might wanna use a VPN or even better, don’t give them any attention and forget they even exist.
