I read we hit a new low on ratings 😔 and… I want to believe this was Fox plan all along. That’s way the chose that date, and the day and no premiere at all and the lack of promotion. I want to believe that they’ll do with The X-Files what they did with Wayward Pines: 2nd season didn’t went well but they didn’t cancel it nor green-lighted a new one. It’s under the rug. My fingers are crossed.

I’m not sure it was the plan. No network would plan on crashing their own show. The lack of promo and the rushed air date for sure didn’t help the ratings, but it was a lost cause after season 10 anyway, and yes, I think Fox knew it.
With Disney creating a new streaming platform, I guess there’s still a chance to see XF keep going but it’ll have to be rebranded to a new format, with a new storytelling. But with Gillian leaving the show, I guess the franchise will indeed be put under the rug until she maybe changes her mind later.
