“I think we were rusty,” Duchovny said of the 2016 season by phone shortly after Christmas.
“It felt like we were finding our way with it,” Anderson agreed. “It didn’t necessarily feel like what it used to be and what it could be. It didn’t feel like we were living its potential, necessarily.”
But, she said by phone from Vancouver, that unfulfilled sense of how great it could be served as motivation. “Part of my decision to come at it again one more time was to have an opportunity to do that. And certainly there’s more of an opportunity with 10 than there was with six, just because of the nature of the show and that it is so many different things, there are so many different worlds that we live in, and aspects of these characters that we get to play, and types of episodes that we do. So to have an opportunity to explore that full range through a larger arc was interesting, and with the hope and the understanding that that perhaps will create a better conclusion for ourselves and for the fans.”

Something’s gonna happen, they’ll both be in LA at the same time, promoting the same show so they will do at least one joint appearance.
If you think about it, they only did one tv-show together for season 10, and one short radio show. They did everything else without one another.
Of course there was a premiere that won’t happen this time but it’s not their fault.
They also did the TCA together which will likely happen this time too. Fox TCA are scheduled on January 4th and 5th, so we will know very soon. If I remember correctly, we knew they were going to be there only a few hours before it happened for season 10 and it gave us a photoshoot, dozens of little interviews and a panel that was live-tweeted. So all of that could happen again.
Besides that, it’s not their choice. There’s a whole major network behind the promotion of such a show and sorry to say it like that, but Gillian and David will go wherever they are told to go and do whatever they are told to do. David didn’t decide to go on Kimmel alone. Fox has an agenda and seeing how they played with Gillovny in their promos, it’s safe to assume they’ll keep capitalizing on Gillian and David’s relationship to promote the show. But Kimmel 2016 was a unicorn. It can’t happen twice. They have to give us something different and at this point, God knows what they have in their sleeves.
Also, if you still think David and Gillian don’t want to promote the show together, remember they already did. The Upfronts and the Webbies happened, and we already have a bunch of BTS, both official and shared by Gillian on Instagram, that show they’re perfectly okay with showing their affection for each other.
One last thing that speaks volume: “I’ll see you in January.” 😉
I think anyone who fears Scully will be killed off at the end of season 11 can take some heart from this article. Feels like David is saying they want to walk away from season 11 knowing it’s possible to come back one day, should they all choose to.
It is going to be awkward because he will be there. His show is nominated so I’m sure he wouldn’t miss an occasion to win an award (not gonna happen, though.
But you’re right, not all the presenters are announced but I think we will know beforehand if they’re going or not. At the very least, we will know during the red carpet!
Exactly! January 2nd is easier for David who has a house in Malibu and can be promoting the show and be with his family as well. But I’m sure it’s just the beginning of the promo week and she’ll join him later for other events.
I think there is still some time and we maybe need to have a little more patience… And tbh I rather have a good s11 than another s10… I can live without the promo and therefore have a awesome s11.
