I’m new and I need to ask: are we hating PM because he isn’t David or if it was something else would we like him (or her)?

Oh no, that’s just Him. On my part, at least. The guy is supposed to be everything she’s fighting against. A misogynistic elitist spoiled white Londoner navigating in elitist powerful white males circles. He writes about The Queen that he keeps despising in interviews, he’s insecure, he makes fun of his own kids and wife in interviews, he’s kinky but in a wrong and kinda disgusting way and he can’t even pretend to be happy when other shows (better and more important shows) win against him.

Gillian Anderson is a punk. She may want to appear as someone else lately, try to build herself a new persona for whatever reason, she will always be a punk deep down. The way I see this relationship, is that it’s a phase. She does that. She has phases. And when she gets bored trying to be someone she isn’t, she moves on. She will move on again, at some point. There must be something in his personality that she enjoys, I mean the guy may have a few qualities! But it’s concerning that none of us are able to see them.
We want Gillovny to be together, but I don’t think we ever were so upset about her previous relationships, except maybe for Hubby numero dos, for reasons. Rodney was hot, and honestly, I shipped them. Mark seemed to be the nicest man on Earth, he seemed protective and I think he did a lot of good to her on many levels. But Peter Morgan… man! This guy is something else! I don’t like him and I never will!

New here as well! I watched xf when I was younger but not religiously as it freaked me out as a kid. Saw the reboot and went back to binge on the entire series and I’m almost done with season 8! So I’m assuming you’ve been in this fandom for a while and I’m not sure if you have the answer for it. But why do a lot of people in the gillovny fandom hate Gillian (from your perspective at least)?

This is quite an ask you sent me here! First of all, I don’t think anyone in here “hate” Gillian. It’s a strong word, and in my opinion, it doesn’t fit the Gillovny fandom’s feeling for Gillian at all. I think ‘disappointment’ works better.

I’m kinda over it now, xfiles start filming again, I want to focus on that, but because you asked nicely and you came off anon, I’ll still try to sum it up for you 🙂

Last November, she was rumored to start dating Peter Morgan, the writer of The Crown. We, the Gillovny fandom, laughed it off. Two months before, she did a comic con wearing a t-shirt saying “I’m with Schmoopie” with an arrow pointing at David and it appeared that they’ve been spending the summer together in California. There was no way she would be dating someone else, we thought. She attended The Crown premiere with Andrew O’Hagan as her date, so there really was nothing to worry about. But in January, they showed up at the Golden Globes together. There was no particular sign of affection, but she was at The Crown’s table. I’ll let you Google the pictures, you will see how *not* in love they look. It was weird. Then there was Viceroy’s House premiere, where she only stayed a few minutes only to run to an event in his honor, and then The Baftas where he was nominated. No need to say that those were tough months for the Gillovny fandom. But then The Webby Awards happened, and Gillian and David were back to their old-seives again, and it was great. It was in May. At this time, there were still people believing she wasn’t dating Peter Morgan. All of that happened in 7 months. 7 months where she could have made it clear who she was with, just walking a red carpet hand in hand and it would have been it. But she chose another way. They went on vacation in Italy and for the first time in her whole career, 450 pictures of her and Peter Morgan were released. A few of them were kinda… graphic… half nudes. That’s the way our Gillovny hopes were crushed.

You will tell me that it’s none of our business who Gillian is dating, and you’re right. It’s not about who she’s dating but about who she is, and for a time, we weren’t sure and probably still aren’t, that the Gillian we all love and admire was the real Gillian. Never we would have thought she would end up half naked with her boyfriend pulling her panties down in the trashy press all around the world, but it happened. Gillian, who is used to vacation in secluded places where nobody can see her went on vacation with her new boyfriend in a celebrity hotspot and was followed for a whole day, maybe two, by paparazzis she definitely saw.

You may have noticed that all the events I listed up there where she attended with him are His events. That’s because in almost one year, we’ve never seen him attending her event. Maybe once, at the Bazaar Magazine women of the year award where she was rewarded, but even there, this magazine was in a marketing partnership with his show. He also showed up at one of her panel for her “We” book in London, but the signing took too long, so he left before her. During those events, we have seen him screaming at her and pulling her hand to rush her, not helping her for one second when she was on crutches, looking annoyed as hell next to her, and not waiting for her while she was signing autographs. In the pictures, we’ve seen him pulling her panties down on a public place, removing his underwear at this same place, and also letting her pay for her own ice-cream. All of that happened during the promotion of Gillian’s book “We, a manifesto for women everywhere” and we got the feeling that she was preaching something she was not applying to herself.

I think the fact that Gillian and David are not together would have been easier to handle if the dude had been a caring gem, which he really isn’t. There’s also a part of the Gillovny fandom who now believe Gillian and David were never together and Gillian (a lot more than David), used Gillovny only for promotional purpose and everything we saw or thought we saw was a lie. I personally don’t believe that, but that’s also where the disappointment come from.

So there’s no hate here. I mean, there could have been hate, when those pictures appeared, because it was seriously shocking and we were reacting with our guts and we may have been harsh on her for sure. But it’s over now, we’re all trying to cope with these new developments and keeping our sanity and decency. We all wish Gillian would have handled all this differently, she had several occasions to do so, but she chose not to. She basically told us once to fuck off with one tweet, and now she has this Tumblr icon which appeared around the time of the Italy pictures so I assume the disappointment is mutual. As for my perspective, I’m proud not praise everything my idols do or say. If they do something I don’t like, I’m not going to pretend I do hoping they care about my opinion, I admit the people I love and admire have flaws, they make mistakes, their judgement isn’t unerring and they’re just humans, not Gods. But as I said, I’m over it, the disappointment is still here in me, but I don’t hate her, I do love her for many reasons, and I accept that there are parts of her personality that I don’t know even though I thought I did, and that there are parts of her that I dislike, just like in everyone else.

My words were not meant to insult your fandom or what you believe in. I understand the reason why it was such a big deal for you in the first place. We aren’t a big fandom but I have friends who were fans of Peter Morgan’s work regarding the British Monarchy for years and this isn’t what we ever wanted to see or get dragged into. It’s not your fault per se, the pictures of Portofino are their fault.

And it’s not only people from your fandom anymore saying that this was inappropriate. It’s one thing to do these things in private but no one can be dumb enough to think that there won’t be reprecussions for this kind of behaviour in public, especially at such a place and as a public figure. It’s unprofessional and leaves you with pictures and information you never wanted to have seen. Now it’s THAT guy who pulls knickers down and puts his mouth against a woman’s vagina in public. That’s sad.

Don’t worry, I didn’t take your message in a bad way at all. I was genuinely interested in having your point of view, and I guess we have a lot in common in this mess. Nor your fandom neither ours wanted to see that, and we both have to deal with it now. As you said, that’s sad.

Hey there, I’ve been lurking on your blog for quite some time now. I’m not in this fandom, but a part of the community that’s into The Crown. We’ve had a lot of contact with Gillian Anderson fans over the last couple of months, and I have to admit it took me a while to figure out that part of your fandom was attached to the idea of Gillian and David Duchovny being in a romantic relationship and that’s why The Crowns and Peter Morgan’s tags were flooded with theories and weird manips all of a (1)

sudden. Some of us genuinely thought that Gillian Anderson would be the next Queen based on her profile and her looks, and it was annoying that people kept accusing Peter Morgan for whatever, searched for compromising articles that made their way into our fandom and generally changed the tone even in our circles as the confusion even started there.

There’s no ‘ship’ around Peter Morgan and therefore no emotional bonds – but I have to say the last couple of weeks, mainly because of what he’d said about Season 2 and these pictures from his vacation, which of course we all saw too, changed a lot in our community as well. With the pics came more info about his personal background, which made it all so much worse! We see the writer in a different light now, which was important even just ton say ‘son’. To me these vacation pictures changed a lot. I find them distasteful especially because what has been done in the public, and we curse the day we got mixed up with your fandom and Gillian Anderson. Esoecially with the satements regarding Season 2 and the weird changes that will come in it. Peter Morgan was highly regarded a couple of months ago. Now, not so much anymore, unfortunately. (End)

Since all this started, I’ve always wondered how The Crown’s fandom was dealing with it and what was their opinion on Gillian and on her relationship with him, so thank you for your insight. It’s very interesting. We curse the day we got mixed up with your fandom and Peter Morgan too, so that gives us a common point, such as not being very fond of his persona. sorry I often agree with you but what you said about the sighting goes to show that you are neither logical nor rational. DD&GA are by what you believe in a 3-4 year relationship. If that was true they should have been spotted by now, yet they weren’t. The thing with PM is fairly new. And after the 2 years of pap hunt due to the sensation of her pregnancy has calmed down GA and Mark were not spotted together in London either. Not one time. which shows that esp. in London she knows where to hide.

She was spotted with Mark, and she was spotted with the other men she was in a relationship with. I’m not talking about paparazzi pictures, but about random people tweeting like it happens all the time, and yet she’s always alone or with her kids when it happens. David and she live in two different countries and yet we know they see each other in private because they told us so. I also believe they do want to hide, which is not the case with PM, obviously. If not, they wouldn’t attend those events together, right?
So with two people living in the same city, and apparently also going on vacation together in plain sight, because it seems like it’s what you’d think if you believe they’re dating, I would expect at least one proper sighting in 8 months. Yet, there was none.

I am really confused too but no I don’t think it is. If I was given to see the picture only, I’d have no doubt that it is. But the with the source looking legit like it does, I don’t think it is. Yet, I’ve submitted the picture to one of the graphiste we have at my job. She’s totally neutral and barely knows Gillian that she named Scully.
She laughed at me when I showed it to her, she said it was such a bad manip. Then she looked at it more seriously, zoomed in, did some stuff with the pixelation and other things I don’t know anything about and said she has zero doubt and that it’s a manip.
I asked for more explanations, she said the guy on the front row is trimmed, but too much and poorly. That his head doesn’t belong to his body. The guy sitting on the chair doesn’t belong to the picture because he doesn’t have the same pixelation as the trimmed guy.
She said Gillian is too small, and PM’s head doesn’t belong to his body either. The sunglasses were added, but there’s a missing branch. Of course the arms are missing. And the light isn’t right. She said the two women on the left side belong to the same picture, and could have been there, but everyone else was added and photoshopped. If the four of the background are standing up on something, PM must be standing on something too, but it’s not possible as Gillian seem to be on the floor, such as the guy sitting because the chair and Gillian are on the same level. But the guy standing in the front row, with the perspective, must be smaller than Gillian, and yet, his head is twice bigger.
Then she asked if it was Mulder standing next to Scully and that he aged badly.

So it only got me more confused than I already was. I told her the source is legit, and it couldn’t be a manip. She told me to shut it because I know nothing and to let her do her job!

So yes, I’m confused too. But still, if it’s a manip it doesn’t make any sense.
In other words: I DO NOT KNOW!

I don’t refuse to see it’s a manip. If it was the pic only, I’d go with a manip without an hesitation. But the source seem legit to me, even if I find it weird that the charity didn’t post it themselves, and that Gillian didn’t say a word about helping this charity. If it was a manip, wouldn’t all the people tagged on it say something?
But on the other hand, there are people with no arms, they’re all looking in different direction, there’s clearly a problem of proportion, PM’s head looks like it was put on another body and the sunglasses on his head don’t look real.
But again, why has no one tagged on the picture react to say it was fake?

I was silent because I wanted to make some research before I’d post about it, and also because I didn’t want a new storm and breakdown in the fandom. But now that many of you know, and the picture is getting out there, i might as well jump in, hoping to smooth the anxiety of some.

They’re not vacationing in Greece, for what we know. They did some charity thing there. It happens that PM’s wife is in Greece too, and she and her family are deeply involved with this charity. A few people with her name even liked that Facebook post. (That Im not going to post, by the way, first of all because I don’t want that charity organization to be harassed, and also because this is a PM free blog, remember?)
So knowing that, I don’t see how Gillian/girlfriend would fit in.
It’s not like we had a sighting of them at the beach or having a meal or whatever. It’s always the same, they’re doing public things, business things, and she looks like she’d rather be anywhere else, as usual. Also, she’s not wearing her bracelet. It could mean something. Or not.

So now, we all have the same informations, it doesn’t change anything for me, it doesn’t hange my position on what I think about their relationship, and it doesn’t change what i think about Gillovny.

If you’re looking for the picture, I’m sure someone will post it eventually, and if not, it’s a group picture with 6 or 7 people and PM and Gillian not touching each other, and one of the woman on it was in London at her Wow event with PM too.

I see ppl saying all kinds of things, that they arrived together, sat together, that the host said somethinh about their relationship??? Did they walk RC together? Did they hold hands? Dud PM win? And if yes, did he thank G in his speech??? And there was something about the car, what did he do again???

Lol! Seems like you’ve been mislead, so here’s what happened for real :

– It seems like they arrived together. There’s a video of them in the cars area. He wasn’t very helpful with her even if she was on crutches under the rain.

– They walked the red carpet separately, just like they did at the Globes

– Gillian posed for the photographers alone and she looked flawless even with her crutches

– they sat next to each other

– The host made a joke about Gillian. She said she wanted her relationships to be intense and with Gillian Anderson in them (I’m paraphrasing, but that’s about it)

– They did not hold hands.

– The Crown lost

I’m confused so I need to ask what the truth is. I thought Gillian was actually nominated for something yesterday at the BAFTAs. I’ve seen plenty of people ignore that or say it’s not true and that she was there because it was for PM and she was supporting him and proud of him. That is NOT how I see it. She wasn’t there for him because if that were the case she would have stood on the red carpet with him and had photos with him through the night. That didn’t happen. But she WAS nominated, yes?

No, she wasn’t nominated. She did arrive at the same time of the cast and crew of The Crown, and sat nearby them. Truth is, she doesn’t need to have a reason the attend the Baftas. It’s not the first time she does, she’s a successful actress, and not everyone in the room was nominated. I think she was here for herself, first of all, and probably to support the team of The Crown if they’d win. They didn’t, so we’ll never what would have happened in this case. But I agree with you, if her first goal was to support Peter Morgan, she would have, at least, posed on one picture with him.
