You are one of the positive vibes in this fandom. Always. It is one of the reasons I follow you. Can I ask what you think this episode?

sunshinetoday:

I’m not gonna lie, this morning when the episode was over, I didn’t really have a lot of positive feelings…but evidently, I just needed a bit of time to think…And I’M sorry but it is one looooooong answer 🙈😊

So here is the thing. Chris Carter is a moron. Always has been, always will be. CSM is everything that is wrong with humanity. He is one horrible character with a GOD complex who never had an honest moment in the last 25 years. *Remind you of someone?CC? No?*  BUT

I really loved watching Gillian and David play Mulder and Scully. It felt natural, nostalgic, and it just made me happy. This episode was not about CC or his mythology. Not for me, anyway. For me, it is painted with feelings, framed by gentleness. It is not about the actual dialogues – of course, written by CC – but the way Gillian and David are playing all their scenes. In the last couple of years, we heard both of them fondly talking about the relationship between these two people. How much they love each other, how much they can’t live without each other and I think they can’t/won’t play them any other way. Not this time.

David once said; “Without the other, they fall as people, as entities, as investigators.” And for me, this is what this episode is all about. We open with an episode where Mulder needs realism, facts; “Scully, I’m on it but first let’s talk to the doctors.” and Scully has the visions. Visions from their son who needs them and whom they need to find. Scully is the irrational and Mulder is rational… You know, how it’s always Scully telling Mulder to not jump on trains, nor board strange ghost ships…not this time. This time it’s Mulder telling Scully to not do the things she ends up doing anyway. Reversed dynamics but they easily slip into the other character’s role. They are one, only together, always in balance, there is no other way around it.

The episode is full of MSR moments proving this. Mulder’s monologues, all of his actions have one concern, Scully. This is a man who snapped and who is fighting harder than ever for what’s important to him. DANA SCULLY. The way they gaze at each other, how they talk to each other, the touches… I mean…for years we were asking for these moments. These conversations. And here they are. We will get them in this season! This is gonna be the season of not-secret sex and I can’t wait to die with all of you when this happens.

Also, do you remember, the COTL? ‘I believe that you will find all of your answers. You will find the answers to the biggest mysteries, and I will be there when you do…But my mysteries… I’ll never have answered.’ I believe that these were the big questions which we will get the answers for in Season 11. The conversation in the hospital, after MULDER SLIT THE THROAT OF A PERSON BECAUSE THEY WANTED TO HURT HIS MOST IMPORTANT PERSON IN THE WORLD… “The truth still lies in The X-files, Mulder. Our son Mulder, they won’t find him, but he will find us” And when he does, Mulder will get the answers he always sought, Scully will be there with him and their answers will save the world, will save us, will save them. And that answer is their son, William

So, long story short I can’t wait for the next 8 stand-alone episodes with these two sexy FBI agents searching for their long-lost son while running around in the woods with their flashlights, solving bat-crap crazy theories, and searching for monsters.

Ain’t no moron CC will take that away from me with 30seconds of nonsense lies…I really think we will get more MSR in this 10 episodes than we’ve ever gotten. Yepp, I said that. Also, CSM who?*

I agree with you, Ally. Up until the very last few lines, I enjoyed the episode, despite the clunky, chunky writing. Fox Freaking Mulder was super fucking hot, MSII was retconned to my satisfaction, and there was enough angst and drama and a good hint of MSR to come. The thigh hold tells me that Scully wants to get back together with Mulder. And also: fuck CC. I don’t believe for a second that the final reveal is truth, but medical rape is not cool and it’s not funny. Moving on to the rest!

allyinthekeyofx:

I agree it’s not funny but I don’t see anyone laughing. But I think the reaction by some has been extreme – this is a fictional show with fictional characters written by a man who has shown many times over the years that, at best, he is pretty socially awkward during interviews and at worst, completely clueless. I have seen some disgusting things the last few hours including threats of violence toward him. Don’t like the creator of the show or the storylines? Don’t watch the fucking show! The potential storyline of Mulder not being the father was discussed way back when, in chat rooms around the world, about what was done to Scully during En Ami and has come up many times in fanfic. Yes it’s a heinous horrible thing but this show is based on heinous horrible things – hints of child abuse, child kidnapping, infanticide, incest, human experimentation, murder, suicide, terrorism, war-mongering, corruption…I could go on and on and on. This is not a show that is based on the happy no matter how much we would like it to be and simple history should tell us that Mulder and Scully are unlikely to go riding into the sunset together anytime soon. Their love has survived DESPITE the horrors they have both suffered at the hands of the writers of the show and a huge part of that is the chemistry Gillian and David bring to the characters. Medical rape was a potential right back in the early seasons of Scullys abduction and even before that it was hinted at with the Eve episode. It’s a bit late in the day for people to be getting all puffed-up and self righteous now with a show that has a long history of sailing close to the edge.
And then let’s also remind ourselves that we have read and enjoyed countless fanfics that have many of the same plot centres as those I listed above. Some of my absolute favourite all-time fics have involved some awful things being done to pivotal characters in the show, written by the heavy-hitters of the fanfic world and loved to this day by the fandom.
To finish I will say this – we all have our own benchmark as to what we can deal with in any given situation and anyone who cannot accept that this show has always been dark as all fuck and has to resort to actually making threats of violence toward the writers is in way too deep and needs to step away and take a deep breath.
I hated American God’s. I hated the gratuitous violence it depicted and I lasted ten minutes before I switched it off never to be returned to again. I didn’t though, rally against the writers and nor did I shit on the parade of those who enjoyed it. I didn’t accuse them of validating murder, torture or violence.
I’m sorry this is a ramble and it isn’t directed at you anon but ffs people need to get a grip.

This is the first smart post I saw on my dash today. And I had to scroll down a long time before I found it. 🙌

Thoughts? Except about the end

I liked the episode! It was intense, I liked the rhythm of it. I could have lived without the Fast and Furious sessions, but I liked it regardless. Mulder slitting that guy’s throat made me jump from my bed and I’m glad CC decided to kind of rewind-erase season 10. That was the right thing to do. If this one has to be the worst of the season, this is going to be a great season!
But for the love of god, can Chris Carter stop raping Scully, either it’s true or not, human or aliens, just stop toying with rape!
