If I was in David’s position, I wouldn’t say a word and I think he won’t. It doesn’t mean he doesn’t support the cause or Gillian herself in her fight. It means he won’t crack under the pressure. Wether it was intended or not, she’s putting a lot of unnecessary pressure on his shoulders now. If he says something, people will say he was obliged too. If he doesn’t say anything, they’ll say he’s a coward and doesn’t care about women. He can’t win.
Filming starts in 5 weeks, with what’s happening now, we can assume the atmosphere on the set won’t be as peaceful and genuine as it could have been. If both of them start to fight Fox, Chris Carter and by extension all the male writers hired for this season, do you think it’ll help?
Gillian is only starting this fight now because of one article in the press. She had plenty of time to go at war against Chris Carter and the production during the negotiations, but I think she didn’t know or wasn’t interested in knowing who was going to write those episodes. It’s a legit fight but with this bad timing, it’s completely useless. Doing this a year ago, even 6 months ago, could have made things change and give them time to hire new writers, female writers if they wanted to. Now it’s too late. So why would David be dragged into something that can’t be changed anyway? He didn’t ask for that, there’s enough mess around this season, Gillian is about to start a petition against her own show 5 weeks before it starts to shoot, I think it’s enough.
I said it once and I’ll say it again, leave him out of it.
