I’m really happy it had that effect on you, anon, and I think you did right to try to take a step back. It really is what I think. There’s a fine line between a fandom and a cult, and I try to stay as far as possible from the second. There are people around here who are way too extreme, and I’m not only talking about the hardcore Gillian’s fans. We all know for example a certain part of David’s fans who are far far away from being just fans. It’s a little scary, and I think it shows a lot more since the Gillian show has started a few weeks ago.
I don’t blame the young people, even the nastiest ones for that, I think in a few years from now, they’ll look back at themselves and see how silly they were. But when it comes from adults, with a life and children and all, that’s way more worrisome. If Gillian would tell them to jump from a bridge, they’d follow her without a question. There’s nothing Gillian can do wrong for them, and they don’t even see that she’s accumulating the bad moves lately. They’re being petty, nasty, full of disdain for absolutely nothing and don’t even see that not agreeing with what Gillian says is still a valid opinion. That’s scary.
And for the sake of equality, I do know that some people were and still are way too invested in Gillovny, and believe me, me saying that is huge! I know people who have stopped eating, sleeping, leaving their bed when the rumor came out in November and again a few weeks ago.
Both are wrong and unhealthy. The only slight difference is that the Gillovny cult members know they’re in a cult and so can work on it. The Gillian cult members think they’re being supportive.
