i was reading an article about ‘the crown’ earlier and it was produced by left bank pictures and sony pictures. so it’s not technically a netflix production.

You know it’s not something you can even question or interpret. It’s not me saying it’s a Netflix show. It is a Netflix show. Period.
It is produced by Netflix, who ordered it, managed it editorially-wise with PM and Daldry. who gathered money from different companies to fund it, who have exclusive rights of distribution and airing.
When there’s this show you can’t see anywhere but on Netflix, and there’s this big Netflix logo on every billboard, it’s a Netflix show. Don’t bother to find another explanation.

Peter Morgan said today that there might not be a season 3 of The Crown and that he’s in discussions about whether to go forward. So much for your « theory » that Gillian was going to star in it and / or be a producer. Simple fact is she’s only going to these events to support him because she’s dating him.

gunningforabasementoffice:

Then we’ll have to agree to disagree. Nothing of the “supporting him” theory holds any weight to me. Logic tells me a lot of other, completely different, things, and your conclusion isn’t one of them.

Also, being in discussions about further seasons means just that. Nothing has been decided and it’s being discussed.

I had the same anon. I couldn’t find this interview, so I assumed it was just a troll.
The most recent information I could find in the press was that:

<i>Reports say that the “The Crown” producers are looking for an actress to play the new-look Queen who will be in her 40s and 50s. Season 3 will pretty much require a wholescale cast change, and for Season 6, the last season, there will be another Queen, since this will take quite close to the present day look of the monarch.

Explain to me why Peter Morgan was attending a Women’s awards show in the first place – and don’t say it was because Harpers Bazaar was promoting The Crown. There’s no proof of that whatsoever. There was literally no benefit to him or the series by him attending the awards, especially as he wasn’t even photographed and we only found out he was even there because of a short BTS video.

If you don’t want me to say that HB is The Crown’s marketing partner, what else do you expect me to answer? You can’t send me an ask and tell what not to say. How is that supposed to be a discussion? But if you think I have no proof and what I say is bullshit, I encourage you to do your own research. Open your laptop. Go on Google. Tape Harper Bazaar + The Crown and see for yourself.
Marketing partnerships are easy to find. It’s when a magazine (or a Tv network, or a website, or whatever you want) has an exclusivity on a tv show (or a movie, or a play, or whatever you want).
HB announced that the show was in production in exclusivity, they announced the casting, the date of release in exclusivity, they had exclusive interviews with Peter Morgan, exclusive photoshoot with the casts, they released the first pictures in exclusivity and the first trailer. They promoted it in every country it would air on Netflix, on Facebook and Twitter from all their international accounts.
Now how much do you bet Gillian’s participation in The Crown will be announced sooner or later in Harper’s Bazaar magazine?

Something changed in the way you’re posting. You seem more self assured and more confident in your theory. Do you know something that we don’t?do you still believe it’s all crosspromo?

Something changed? I don’t know… like I said, I’m back to fully believing in Gillovny and most of all, I’m fully convinced she’s not dating anyone else. But it’s just my take, and time will tell.
More than crosspromotion, I believe she will be playing a part in the crown, as an actress, a producer, editor, writer, costume designer what do I know? I just feel like she’s going to be involved in it and that’s all this mess is about. Nothing else.

What will you think if G and PM show up for SAG and BAFTA like they did for GG? Don’t you think 4 events will be too much to be explained as network socializing? And I’m not saying your theory is wrong, I’m just wondering. What we really need is something official from her, like when she and Mark were done (btw, was that really announced on D’ b-day) and untill I don’t get that, Gillovny lives! And also, do you have a law school degree? Your arguments would win a trial. ❤

Lol!! No, I don’t, but thank you! I should think about a reconversion maybe!
So they didn’t go to the SAG, BAFTA television are in May, so yes, there’s still a chance they show up at this one. But by that time, Gillian will have done a lot of events for her book and Viceroy’s House, and if she does all of them on her own, if he never shows up and they magically reappear together at the BAFTA because The Crown is nominated, I think we can all agree that either it’s a one-way relationship which Gillian would never agree to be in, or it’s a professional relationship centered on The Crown because somehow she’ll be involved in it.

your anons don’t make any sense….. according to your theory (which I agree with), Gillian went to the golden globes to support THE CROWN, not the individual actors. So, the reason she’s not at the SAG awards isn’t because Peter Morgan’s not there, it’s because tonight isn’t about the show but the actors themselves,

Thank you, anon. There wasn’t any of the writers or producers. Gillian is not a member of the cast, so why the hell would she attend the SAG with Claire Foy and Matt Smith? That doesn’t make any sense. She doesn’t live to promote The Crown. She attends when he attends. It doesn’t mean they’re together. It will mean they’re a couple when he will attend her events. That did not happen yet, even when he was in NY and she had this book event with all these influent people and writers and he was in NY too. She went at his event but he didn’t go to hers. When this will happen, I will agree my theory will be invalidated. For now, it just means she’s closer to the crew and the financial team (PM, Daldry, those people around their table at the Globes ceremony and after party) than the cast. Even if I’m sure she will congratulate Claire Foy with a tweet or something.

The only reason why The Crown is being talk about so much is the disproportionate amount of money Netflix has invested on its promotion. Why would Gillian invest money in a series which represents the opposite of what she stands for? Making money? It’s not a safe bet at all. It’s an incredibly expensive product and Queen Elizabeth II is far away from being an engaging and fascinating subject. One season is ok, two maybe, but I doubt it will have a third season considering its enormous cost.

Why would The Crown be against what Gillian stands for? I don’t think she supports cannibalism, but she played in Hannibal all the same. Netflix has already signed for 6 seasons, it would make sense for her to invest in this particular show, as producer, or to star in it as an actress. She’s totally legit do to it considering her background and career, the movies and series she’d done before. This show is going to be sold in every country after its run on Netflix, it’ll bring a lot more money than what it costs, it’s a huge success for Netflix, it’s normal that it drags new investors, and with all the money they have invested for promotion, I’m sure they won’t stop after the second season.

Your answer re: something being « off » about G promoting the Crown is so true. I am one who is fairly convinced that she is seeing Peter, but the way in which she has been tweeting about, sharing pics of, showing up for all these Crown events is VERY unlike someone who everyone always claims is « very private » with her personal life. There’s a major disconnect there. I would put money on her being in season 3 and/or a producer. Which I think is part of why she doesn’t have time to do more XF now.

The more I think about it, the more I’d go with the producing theory. It doesn’t mean she can’t also be dating him, but to me, it’s more likely a coworker relationship than a romantic one. And you’re right, she’s very private, she controls everything she does regarding her private life and doesn’t allow press or fans scrutiny, so putting herself under the spot like that is very uncharacteristic, which makes me think appearances are maybe deceptive.

It’s not Gillian’s fault that her fandom acts a little crazy in the coconut at times. She can take a selfie with who she wants without having to think what drama it will cause. Let’s just wait what the future brings (season 3 of the Crown, with an outstanding performance of G). Pm is not blocking my chakras 🤣

I don’t totally agree with you. She knows exactly what’s going on, and if she doesn’t, she needs to change her PR team. She knows posting a selfie with a guy from The Crown wasn’t going to be taken as an innocent pic with a random guy. Not right now. And honestly, I don’t think it was innocent at all. What was the exact purpose, that I don’t know.

Nobody promotes their couples’ work on their official websites. Gillian Anderson is a professional actor, not a teenager posting on Facebook. You’re into this business, JHH. Once a rumour saying she was dating the creator of the series appeared, what credibility does her opinion still have (in promotional terms) if they’re personally involved? Have you ever seen this type of publicity on an official website? I can’t get my head around this promotion of « The Crown » on her own webpage.

This kind of promotion, the tweets, the events attendances, and the link on her official website are contractual, in my opinion. It’s clearly not what you do when you’re in a relationship, especially when you’re not out yet. Long time official couples can promote each other’s works, no one is surprised when Beyonce promotes Jay Z’ albums (that’s the first example I had in mind, sorry) because they’re out, official, married and have a child. But there are rules to follow in this industry, either you’re a big worldwide celebrity or not. First, you come out. Then you promote your partner. Gillian promoted The Crown even before we heard about PM. She keeps hanging out with him, yet, nothing has been confirmed about their supposed relationship. To me, it just means there’s no relationship at all, only a work partnership. I think she’s more involved with the show than with him because everything they’ve done together was about it.

That said, I also think she’d made a PR mistake, or was badly advised. Because if she’s dating him, she’ll be accused to have over-promoted his show, even more than her own projects, people already have a bad opinion on him and will take him and their couple responsible for pushing xf back, and it can be seen as a bad move from a major part of her fandom. If she’s not dating him and will be involved in The Crown, she needs to clarify the situation before it’s announced or we all know what she’ll be accused to. I bet her involvement in The Crown will be announced in the next few months, when the green light for the third season is official, but before that, she’ll make a random interview when a journalist will ask her directly or not, and she’ll make it clear that she’s not and has never been dating him. That’s how I see it… We’ll see…
