Fair enough, JHH. You’ve been frank and balanced, as always. Anyway, whatever she does in her private life, it only concerns her unless she’s blending both. That’s what troubles me. Apparently many fans have taken for granted that she’s dating Morgan. And I don’t get their thoughts. Do they think GA is promoting the hell out of « The Crown » so blatantly (even more than some of her own projects) because she’s in a relationship with his creator? Do they think that GA is using her official website 1

to advertise her new boyfriend’s show? Seriously? How offensive and unprofessional is that? How feminist and reasonable? Do you see Peter Morgan promoting Gillian’s work? Therefore, who is this Gillian Anderson who, supposedly, is more invested in the promotion of “The Crown” (because she’s with Morgan) than let’s say… “War & Peace” where she actually appears? Don’t they think something is off? 2

There’s indeed something off, if some people refuse to see it, it’s okay, but I do. She’d never promoted anything as hard as she’s promoting this show, I guess it’s working because half of the fandom would have never heard of it without this mess. When he’ll start to attend events for her and to equally promote her works, then I’ll give up, but I don’t see that coming. He only said he watched The Fall… Okay… Like everyone else who has Netflix UK, I guess… People should know how this business works for real before saying Gillian only promoted the crown because she’s proud of her boyfriend. That’s not how it works. At all. But you know, eventually, the truth will surface, and I’m fairly confident about it.

The woman with the pink hat and the one with the glasses on her head were on stage yesterday. G wasn’t in « the crowd » yesterday. She marched with the VIP. So whoever told you they saw Stephen Daldry in the street (as if it was possible to recognize him) lied to you. And no, they weren’t filming The Crown in the streets during the Women march day! She took this selfie because he was also in with the VIP in the march. Thought it needed to be said.

🤔

Ask yourself why Gillian is so friendly with the cast and crew of The Crown. It’s not because she’s appearing in it. Season 2 is halfway through filming and it would’ve been announced by now if she was going to be in it. She wouldn’t be hanging out with people she hadn’t worked with yet, either. The most likely explanation is that she knows them so well because she’s dating their boss and sees them regularly.

I’m sure you can think better than this. “She knows their boss!” Seriously? Look, if she’s with him, why didn’t he march with her? If the crown was filming, why isn’t he on this pic rather than the producer? Do you seriously think that if she’s dating PM she spends all her free time hanging out with her boyfriend’s coworkers? Who does that? He probably doesn’t do that himself.
This guy was at their table at the GG, she probably met him at the Premiere, or maybe she knew him before, it’s a small world.
There’s an article which just came out about The Crown season 3. They’re recasting everyone because the characters need to be older. Gillian could legit be in it, there might be a lot of discussions about it right now, she could be a producer too, she could be a lot of thing about this show. It doesn’t mean she’s not dating PM, but it doesn’t mean she is either.
There is something about this show, and I’m like 99% sure about that.

How do you interpret this selfie? Honest answer please

She really seems to a lot around The Crowns team lately, it’s all about it show, so to me, it reinforces the promo or the crown involvement theory. But I guess it can be interpreted in many ways, as usual.
At this point, I don’t think it’s just random and innocent, though. She definitely knows what’s going on in her fandom, she can’t post this selfie just like that, I think.

Nobody but nobody does cross promotion for another person’s show just because it’s aired by the same network or streaming service. I implore you to show me other examples where this has happened. And what Netflix executive would suggest cross-promoting The Crown and The Fall together? One’s a psychological crime drama about a serial killer and a cop, the other is about the British Royal family! Also, if any if this were true, how come Jamie Dornan hasn’t appeared at an event for The Crown?

I had received so many messages about that, it’s insane! I could literally spend the night giving you hundreds of thousands of exemples where a Netflix (or any other network!) show promotes another one, but it’ll be very boring for everyone, so let me just give you a few exemples.

If we forget that Netflix build up a whole video game (x) where you can play characters from either Orange is the New Black, Narcos, Stranger Things or Sense8 and if we think that actors from one show being cast in another show has nothing to do with crosspromo (x- here from House Of Cards to Narcos), it still leaves us with a lot of examples to talk about.

For example, do you think it’s crosspromo when Ricky Gervais who will be launching the Spin Off of The Office very soon on Netflix made a parody video promoting literally all the Netflix shows? (x)

Or when an actress from Orange is the New Black promotes House of Cards on an official promo trailer? (x)

I know, I know… You will tell me that this is marketing, and official, and just shows promoting other shows, which is not the same than two actors hanging out together at an award ceremony. Speaking of award ceremony, remember The Emmys last September, when all the cast from Stranger Things did that little skit, giving food to all the celebs in the room, but Kevin Spacey (from House of Cards, for the record) was actually part of the skit?

But still, it’s not really the same, because it’s not like he’s hanging out with real actors from another show. So here he is, at the launch of Da Vinci (streamed on Netflix France) with Matthew Modine from Stranger Things.

But enough of Kevin Spacey. How about Naveen Andrews (Sense8) and

Samira Wiley (OITNB) at the Gay Pride?

Let’s also talk about social media. Look at this crosspromotional Instagram post from Candace Cameron (Fuller House) posting a parody pic with House of cards (x)

Honestly, I could go on and on and on. I could also go on about other networks, other shows, other actors. Crosspromo is a marketing tool just like many other tools. Fandoms coexist, and when they meet, it’s just more viewers for one show and the other one. Does it mean that Gillian is actually crosspromoting The Crown? Not necessarily, but at least, it’s an option.

Sorry, I know this is old but I’ve always seen it here saying that on Gillian’s website in the post who she made the first time on The Crown had a netflix link on the site and that this could be promotional stuff, I did not get it, because I went to look at her site now, and I just saw the same thing she posted on twitter. Sorry again, but I’m do not get it.

Okay, here’s the screencap :

image

GAWS has added a link at the bottom of their post. They do that very often for Gillian’s charity and her own projects, of course. But if you have a few minutes to lose like I seem to have right now, I encourage you to go check GAWS, because first, it’s a gold mine and a good place to hang out when it’s raining on Sunday, and then because there’s all Gillian’s archive. The ONLY project which is not charity or Gillian’s related where they added this link is The Crown. Here are a few examples:

image

No link to buy this book.

image

No link to buy tickets

image

How about her good friend William Vintage? Still no link.

image

Not even a link to buy her very own David Duchovny’s book. Just the screencap of her tweet.

What I’m trying to say is that Gillian doesn’t run GAWS herself. She doesn’t tell her PR team to put a link on this or this and remove it on this or that. They added this link for The Crown because they had to. Why? I don’t know!
