Fox Exec Dana Walden: New Season ‘X-Files’ Script Is “Excellent”–TCA

perplexistan:

At TCA, Fox CEO Dana Walden revealed a little something about the much-anticipated next season of the re-booted X-Files. Sadly for fans though, she did not elaborate on whether the show would feature Mulder and Scully’s son, telling reporters, “You’ve met Chris Carter, would be be happy about me talking about where the mythology goes? I can’t do that.”

However, Walden was happy to say, “Everyone’s seen the first script and it’s excellent. It’s a very good starting place for the show and we’re excited about the next installment.” This was in response to questions about the muted response to the first season of the re-boot. Walden did not agree that there reaction had been a negative one. It’s hard because I don’t want to say they were disappointing because we got a lot of positive feedback as well and clearly 15M plus viewers per episode,” she said. “Chris is really excited about doing a new round of episodes and there is certainly no reason for him to have to do it, he’s wildly successful and it wasn’t about the money. He had real hunger and enthusiasm to come and do new episodes. I know he’s really excited about it.”

Walden remained tight-lipped about whether the new season will pick up where the last finale left off. “I can’t say,” she said, “but we just got the script in so I don’t want to give any spoilers out.”

‘The X-Files’ Largely Ditching Mythology Episodes Next Season

Madden also teased a bit about season 11’s storyline. “We start the season right up from where the season finale left off with that big helicopter and takes you right from there,” he says. “You’ll be launched into a very urgent adventure that has a lot to do with William — Mulder and Scully’s kid. so the search for William will be a significant thread through the show. You will see the Cigarette Smoking Man. You may see The Lone Gunmen somewhere along the line. There will be other characters from the previous mythology that will be reprised.”

‘The X-Files’ Largely Ditching Mythology Episodes Next Season

I don’t get why people are so upset with the eight stand alones. Why would anyone want a bunch of episodes wasted on Mulder and Scully being stuck on that bridge and then get one episode where they search for Willy boy only to find him dead one minute before they got to him? I want these 8 episodes it’s eight episodes with a chance of getting some Mulder and Scully joined scenes and MSR. I’m thinking a follow up on this is how I want my Mulder *the agents in horizontal position Scully on too*

I really don’t want what you said, anon! lol!

I love standalones. They’re the reason I watched the show in the first place and my favorite episodes are stand alones and funny stand alones. I’m trusting all the writers and directors to insert some good msr in them more than Chris Carter if he was doing 5 mythological episodes. I think we will get a little bit of mythology in every episode.

8 standalone? We’re screwed. We’ll never have msr or william :(

I didn’t take it that wrong, actually, I think it can be good. I mean, if you consider Babylon and Home Again as standalones, which I do, I can deal with that (if they’re good). I think there will be a little bit of MSR and hopefully William disseminated in all of them with the vision and insight of every writer and director, which can be better than more whole mythological episodes totally fucked up by Chris Carter.
